This study is exploring a potential new therapy aimed at helping slow disease progression and improve outcomes for people living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. This research is made possible with Healthy Volunteers.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, or IPF, is a long-term lung condition where the tissue in the lungs slowly becomes scarred and stiff.

Normally, your lungs are soft and stretchy, which makes it easy to breathe and for oxygen to pass into your blood. With IPF, scar tissue builds up in the lungs over time, making them thicker and harder. As this scarring increases, it becomes more difficult to breathe and harder for the body to get the oxygen it needs.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how the experimental drug is processed in the body and to assess potential interactions between the study drug and medications currently approved for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

The start date for this study is flexible. If you pass the initial screening, the study coordinator will work with you to schedule your exact dates.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a long-term condition where the kidneys slowly lose their ability to work properly. One of the main reasons this happens is something called fibrosis, which is basically scarring inside the kidneys. Over time, this scarring makes the kidneys stiff and less able to filter waste from the blood. Current treatments mostly help with symptoms or try to slow the damage, but they don’t stop the scarring itself. 

The study drug being tested is different. It’s designed to go after the root cause of the problem, the scarring process. In the body, there are certain signals that tell tissues to form scar tissue. These signals keep the scarring going and make the kidneys worse over time. The potential new drug blocks both signals at the same time. By doing this, it aims to stop the scarring from getting worse and might even help reverse some of the damage. 

If this works, it could be a big step forward because it’s not just managing symptoms tackling the actual process that causes kidney failure. That means people with CKD could keep their kidneys working longer and avoid serious complications. This is a new approach that researchers hope will fill a big gap in current treatment options. 

This screening study is part of the enrolment process for an upcoming clinical research study, The Cardio Marker Study. The study is helping researchers learn more about an investigational drug being developed to target two important markers linked to heart health: LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)].

The aim of The Cardio Marker Study is to understand how the study drug behaves in the body and to assess its safety in healthy adults. The information collected may support future research involving people with elevated LDL-C or Lp(a), who may be at higher risk of cardiovascular disease.
