Alex participated in a study to help develop a vaccine for the RSV respiratory virus in our Brisbane Clinic.

“I think everyone should at some point in their life, try and contribute in some capacity to medical research. You never know what that research might do, who it might save.”

Why did you participate?

I want to be a doctor so I have a passion for the medical world and medical research is a huge part of that. There's not a whole lot that I can do until I'm a doctor to contribute to that. And that's a long way away… So doing something like this is something that I can do in the meantime that makes me feel like I'm contributing and making a positive influence in the medical world.

Did you feel safe and in control?

I definitely did. Everything was made very abundant to me. Everything was clear. There was no grey area. The doctors explained everything to me, explained the risks, explained all of that. The nurses told me exactly what I needed to do to be safe, or the precautions that I needed to take while undertaking the trial and all of those things… They explained everything and made sure I was all right at every step. At no point did I feel anything except safe and controlled and cared for.

What did you think of the clinic?

So the clinic was within the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital precinct and it was nice. The staff were great. The facilities were nice. They were nice and quick. They were chatty. Everyone I spoke to was lovely. They looked after me really well. The clinic was nice. It was very modern, very comfortable, easy to get to.
